Cameron Moll Colosseo iPad Martian Giveaway

What began as a 10-year wedding anniversary to Rome concluded a year later as an artistic endeavor to reimagine the Coliseum with type.

What is Colosseo?

In March 2009, Cameron and his wife, Suzanne, spent several days in Rome to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. This was also a chance to observe in detail the Coliseum, which Cameron had already selected as the next subject in his series of letterpress posters.

Over the course of the next 12 months, the artwork was handcrafted character by character, totaling roughly 250 hours of work from start to finish. Characters from the Goudy Trajan and Bembo Pro typefaces form the Coliseum (or Colosseum), also known as today as Colosseo (Italian) and originally known as Amphitheatrum Flavium (Latin).

Martian sightings!

April 13th

Today Cameron Moll announced the finalists for his Martian Dribble contest. Le sigh...The high quality of the entries was both unbelievable and depressing. I'm constantly amazed at the level of talent on Dribble. I love the original Colosseo poster I purchased but it would be extra-awesomer to have the super limited Martian poster as well. With any luck, I'll win the Cameron Moll Colosseo iPad Martian Giveaway and have to 'settle' for an iPad :).

Update on the iPad Martian Giveaway

April 10th

So we're at the close of the 4th day since this iPad giveaway started and there have been some seriously creative entries. I have to admit I check the Google search results a few times per day and it's been a non-stop roller coaster ride. The sites that remain in the top 20 have shifted every single time I've searched those specific keywords. I can say that there are several one-off designs that are very intimidating so kudos to each of those designers. Good luck to each of you!

What's a Martian doing in an iPad giveaway contest?

April 9th

Cameron Moll has given more details today about how a Martian is related to this whole Colosseo iPad Martian Giveaway. The 3rd giveaway requires you to rebound his latest shot on Dribble in which he had a custom glyph. The winner will receive an exclusive, not-for-sale Colosseo print but with a Martian in it. It's extra special due to the limited 15 prints made. Good luck to all who enter.
